Hello all, I have got tweets on our account, asking why did I list MobiNiL as Limited BIS with no Unlimited Plans, and as I explained on twitter, It isn’t my problem that the information provided on MobiNiL website is biased, at the beginning of the page they say it’s Unlimited, then later they list it as only 150MB? What should we believe really?
So we decided to release this article to help all identify their Data Plan, but please note that this is exclusive to Egypt only. It is different from a country to another.
According to our limited information, Egypt doesn’t have a monitoring license on RIM NOC which is based in the UK, which means that all Data passes encrypted completely from your device to the NOC at the UK. Which also means that the State force(امن الدوله) shouldn’t have access to it. Which makes the BlackBerry a highly end security device, without anyone from inside Egypt able to monitor it, specially that the Data is encrypted, and nearly none should be ably to decode the data restoring it to the original format.
We do think the same goes for carrier, a simple question. Why does a network like Etisalat offer BIS Unlimited with “no fair usage policy” because, your traffic doesn’t go through Etisalat servers, So Whatever you do, you shouldn’t be able to over load Etisalat Servers, you are only abusing their Cell Towers, which are strong enough to handle the high data volumes. Your BlackBerry traffic will always go directly through RIM NOC, which makes any website censored in Egypt, able to be accessed by the BlackBerry, back in 26th of January 2011, when the Government decided to block Facebook and Twitter, it didn’t affect the BlackBerry, because the data doesn’t even move through the local servers which is controlled by the Internet providers in Egypt and Supreme council of Telecommunications.
After we have done a bit of explaination, lets see now how to identify your Data plan.
If you got a BlackBerry running OS 4 or 5, go to Settings, Advanced, Service Books. Open the BlackBerry Internet Browser ( or called Internet Browser) and check the Gateway address, if it’s some numbers followed by blackberry.net then you got Unlimited BIS, that your carrier may never be able to monitor.
But if you got a BlackBerry running OS 6 or 7, go to Settings, Device, Advanced, Service Books, open BlackBerry Internet Browsing 1 and check the address, also BlackBerry Internet Browsing 2 and check the gateway address if both show some numbers followed by blackberry.net then your getting Unlimited BIS, if not and it was showing maybe internet.vodafone.net or mobinil.net then your Blackberry traffic is forced through your carrier, monitored and limited.
What we mean by Unlimited, is Unlimited everything but Streaming Videos, 3rd party browsers or any 3rd party application that requires WAP2 usage.
(If you have got Social(As7aby) or Emails(Emilaty) you got Unlimited Social/Emails)
